“To read is to voyage through time.”
The library is a vital resource and it serves as a nerve Centre for all the students' pursuits.
To enhance reading and learning amongst students, Jaypee Public School, Noida has a well-ventilated, illuminated and fully air-conditioned library. The school has a well-equipped and computerized library, with over 10,000 books, reference books, biographies, DVDs, CDs, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, internet facilities and is also stocked with other resource materials which are added to continually.
Apart from regular library classes, various activities for school students like Book Mark Making, Book Reviews, Book Jacket Designing, Storytelling, Read Aloud, Story Composition, and many others are conducted to keep students engaged in stories and keep the art of book reading and stories active in today’s digital era.
To know the importance of reading and value of libraries, our school organizes an educational visit to National Book Trust (NBT), India on a regular basis for our young readers. As we all know NBT is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India which works to promote reading culture, publish quality books in different languages, organize book fair and support authors and readers across the county.
The students get an opportunity to explore the book sections and enjoyed the activity sessions organized by NBT like storytelling, creative writing, illustration workshop and many more. The students toured a wide collection of books including children’s literature, fiction, biographies science and history.
Thus, the regular visit motivates students to develop interest in book reding and publishing where they dived into different genres of books.
To make reading a fun and engaging activity, where students come together to read, share and discuss books. We have evolved “READING CLUB” for our students.
The club aims and helps students to become confident readers, promotes creativity, teamwork and encourage students to develop a skill of lifelong love for books.
Students explored different genres, exchange ideas and participate in activities like storytelling, book reviews, books and authors quiz and book hunt. Thus, the club improves vocabulary, and build confidence in speaking and writing.
Our students also participate in Book Writing Programme.
The BRI BOOK WRITING platform has provided an opportunity to think independently, express ideas and experience the process of becoming young authors.
Students were guided to select a theme of their choice such a story, poems, or any inspirational topics. They wrote their own content, designed pages and illustrated their work. Teachers provided support in planning, editing, language improvement and presentation. Thus, it helps hesitant writers gain confidence and motivated students to read and write more regularly.
Our school also has a well-organized Classroom Library equipped with story books, reference books and educational books. Books are arranged according to levels and categories to help learners choose appropriate reading material.
Students regularly borrow books during the library period as well as during free time. The classroom library has helped students improve vocabulary, reading fluency and interest in literature. Reading time is encouraged to develop interest in books.
Not only this our school also subscribes to Daily Newspaper for our students to improve reading habits and stay informed about current events and important happenings around the world.
Reading different sections like headline, sports, education and editorials helps students to think critically and become aware, responsible and confident learners.
We also realize that reading is fundamental to functioning in today’s society. It stimulates our imagination and expands our understanding of the world. To enhance the learning of our students, we have invited very renowned authors like Ms.AnupaLal, Mr. Sanjay Muttu, Ms. Gita Mehta and Ms. Vaijayanti SavantTonpe, at our school premises, who presented their anthology of stories and poems as storytelling enhances creative thinking and gives words, images and sounds to this art.
Not only this, JPS, Noida continuously organizes a three-day Book Fair in association with Scholastic Co. Pvt. Ltd and other Book Fair holders, where students of classes Nursery to VIII browse a wide range of books of all the literary genres. The parents also actively participate in the same with full enthusiasm.
A Virtual Library Page was created which provided access to E books, CBSE and NCERT resource material, videos and YouTube links to famous books and authors. The students get themselves engaged by finding themselves connected with the imaginary world of books.
To strengthen the initiative to build a stronger reading culture and enhance the collection development of the school library, regular visits to the World Book Fair by subject experts and other scholars are taken care of. The school teachers visit World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan every year.
The teachers select meaningful books for the school library enrichment which is age appropriate and curriculum supportive also. The teachers also interact with publishers and discuss readability and relevance to curriculum requirements.
Books that promotes values, creativity, language development and critical thinking are procured for the school library.
Apart from this the school also commemorates “World Book Day” every year on 23rd April by holding a special assembly focusing on and encouraging young people to discover the pleasure of reading.
To encourage everyone to read, the school also organizes various activities such as “Drop Everything and Read” (DROP) in which children, teachers, administrative staff, along with supporting staff celebrate the importance and joy of reading for a prescribed time.
Thus, with all these efforts, JPS, Noida Library has become a center of learning and engaged readers in the world of books and stories.
